Museum



Motor Sich JSC National Museum was founded in 1980 as Museum of Labour Glory of Motorostroitel Zaporozhye Production Association, and in eight years obtained the rank of ‘national’ (Resolution of Board of Ukrainian Ministry of Culture No.4/21-г dd 28.04.88).

On the basis of archive documents, materials from information sources, memories of specialists, technical officers in chronological sequence has been restored century-long history of the plant establishment and development.

Museum expositions are presented with stages of formation and development of domestic aviation. The main exhibits of the museum are aviation engines. Among them are piston engine M-11 for legendary U-2 aircraft, M-11FR1 engine for Yak-18 and Yak-18U aircrafts, M-22 piston engine for AIR-7, I-4, I-16 aircrafts, M-88B piston engine for Il-4 (DB 3F), ANT-15, Su-2 aircrafts, Ash-82FN piston engine designed by A.Shevtsov for La-5FN, La-7 etc. aircrafts, AI-26V piston engine designed by A.Ivchenko, installed on Mi-1 the first production helicopter, Ash-62IR engine designed by A.Shevtsov for Li-2 and An-2 aircrafts;  RD-45F gas-turbine engine for MiG-15UTI fighter and Il-28 bomber aircraft, RD-500K gas-turbine engine for FKR-1 battlefield cruise missile and KS 1 guided missiles; AI-20, AI-24, AI-25 engines designed by A.Ivchenko for Il 18, An-8, An-24, An-26, Yak-40 aircrafts; TV3-117VMA designed by A.Krasnikov for Mi-8МТ, Mi 14, Mi-17, Ka 27 etc. transport and combat helicopters; AI-23U gas-turbine drive developed by Progress Design Bureau for Uralmash-3D-61 drilling rigs; AI-8 and AI-9 auxiliary gas-turbine engines developed by Progress Design Bureau for AI-20, TV3-117, AI-25 engines start; D-36 turbojet engine developed by Progress Design Bureau to power Yak-42, An-72 and An-74 aircrafts.

The museum expositions consist of originals – the evidence of the enterprise past and modern history. Among them are real treasures and things which provide insight into manufacturing process, written documents, trophies, photo documents. The Doors Open Days, being held since 2001, is the great opportunity, especially for the younger generation to know more about enterprise past, which consists of memorable moments and glorious chapters of history.

Here in halls, on exhibition stands and show-cases visitors can take a look at unique exhibits, aircraft models with engines produced by our enterprise, customer goods, gifts from numerous partners and guests of our enterprise from Ukraine and CIS countries.

The representatives of Ukrainian and CIS enterprises, foreign guests, pupils, colleges and universities students, young professionals and workers from different organization departments are the frequent guests of our museum.

In 2006 museum personnel were admitted to the Technical Specialization Museum Personnel Association of Ukraine. Every year they take part in workshop conferences held by Association making reports. Currently Museum fund consists of more than 44,000 storage units. From 4 to 7 thousands of people visit museum every year.

During its existence 196,000 people visited museum, 7,240 excursions and lectures were held.

The museum of enterprise awarded with:

  • Honorary Diploma of Ministry of Aircraft Production and Labor Union Central Committee in 1987;
  • Letter of Award of City Culture Department for wining the Show of National Museums, related to 70-Year Jubilee of Zaporozhye Industrial Complex  in 2002;
  • Diploma of  Regional Council of Ukrainian National Trust for the preservation and promulgation of Zaporozhye Region historical and cultural heritage, 2006.
